- This is the release note file for PC Gopher III, version 1.1.2, released
- 6 August 1993.
-
-
- ---------------------------------
- Fixed Bugs
- ---------------------------------
-
- * fixed bug in telnet session name lookups; if a name lookup failed,
- the session was being run anyway, aimed at a bogus address.
-
- * added sanity check to attribute info code; selecting an error item
- and asking for views or attributes won't crash the program.
-
- * changed the config file code to copy rather than rename the config
- file during updates; renaming was a problem if the .INI file was on
- one drive and the temp file was on another.
-
- * if a variable in GOPHER.INI was set to point to an environment
- variable, and the user made configuration changes, the reference
- to the environment variable was being replaced; gopher now respects
- the environment variable settings
-
- ---------------------------------
- Changes
- ---------------------------------
-
- * PC Gopher no longer zeros all of the addressing information when the
- "Use BOOTP" checkbox is checked; it just zeros the pc_ip address. It
- has to do this to tell the TCP layer to do a BOOTP request. This
- means that if your BOOTP server doesn't return nameserver or gateway
- addresses, you can enter them by hand, and PC Gopher should use them.
- You can NOT override information that comes back from the BOOTP
- server, however; if you put a nameserver address in GOPHER.INI and
- check "Use BOOTP", and your BOOTP server returns a nameserver address,
- the address returned by the server will be used, and the one in
- GOPHER.INI will be ignored.
-
- * the syntax for the terminal session emulator strings has changed;
- you need to use a "$" character in the commandline, rather than "%".
- This was changed in order to allow gopher to use environment variables
- specified in the GOPHER.INI file; you'll need to change the
- commandline strings in your GOPHER.INI by hand, or terminal sessions
- won't work anymore...
-
- * added two more parameters to the [paths] section of GOPHER.INI:
-
- swap_dir = . ; directory to swap to during shells/terminal sessions
- tmp_dir = . ; directory for gopher to use when creating temp files
-
- Both of these directories MUST be writeable! You will have to add
- these parameters to your GOPHER.INI file by hand, or delete it and
- let PG Gopher create a new GOPHER.INI. If you don't add these
- parameters, PC Gopher will use the directory that GOPHER.EXE lives
- in for swap files and temp files.
-
- ---------------------------------
- Unfixed Bugs
- ---------------------------------
-
- * mysterious range-check errors at addresses 0459:0CF0, 091E:13C7,
- 1174:03F3, and 1174:0343. If you see these, report them, along with
- the version number of PC Gopher, your DOS version, a list of TSRs
- that you load at boot time, and the name and version number of any
- other network software you're using (PC/TCP, Vines, etc.)
-
- * in single-window mode, a failed query shouldn't close the window
-
- * in single-window mode, the list of items is sometimes incomplete
- until the scrollbar has been moved.
-
- * still no help system
-
- Have fun, and keep reporting bugs!
